Combined Water Systems

Integrated Laboratory Water Systems: Maximum Flexibility and Efficiency

Integrated water systems represent an innovative and efficient solution for laboratories requiring multiple water purity grades for various applications. These systems consolidate different purification units into a single compact device capable of producing Reverse Osmosis water (Type III), purified water (Type II), and even ultrapure water (Type I) on demand. Labotal offers a range of integrated water systems that provide operational flexibility, save valuable laboratory space, and streamline workflows.

Integrated Technology for Producing Different Water Purity Grades

The principle behind integrated water systems is the combination of several purification technologies in a logical sequence within a single unit. Typically, the process begins with pre-filtration of tap water, followed by passage through a Reverse Osmosis (RO) membrane to remove most salts, organic contaminants, and particles. This water, defined as Type III, is stored in an internal or external tank.

To produce purified water (Type II), the water from the storage tank undergoes an additional purification step, usually via an Electrodeionization (EDI) module or ion-exchange resin (DI) cartridges, which remove residual ions. In some advanced integrated systems, ultrapure water (Type I) can also be dispensed directly from the system through a polishing loop that includes specific resins, UV radiation, and ultrafiltration, delivering 18.2 MΩ·cm quality water at the point of use.

Diverse Applications for Integrated Water Systems

The ability to produce multiple water purity grades from a single system makes integrated systems ideal for laboratories with diverse needs:

  • Type III Water (RO Water): Feed for autoclaves, laboratory dishwashers, preparation of general rinsing solutions.
  • Type II Water (Purified Water): Preparation of buffers, reagents, and microbiological growth media, feeding general analytical instruments (like spectrophotometers), histological applications.
  • Type I Water (Ultrapure Water – in relevant systems): Critical applications such as HPLC, PCR, sensitive cell cultures, advanced analytical chemistry.

Using an integrated system ensures the supply of the required water quality for each application while saving on the purchase and maintenance costs of multiple separate systems.
